Knowing that children and young adult literature are critically and historically placed between two important poles of educating and entertaining, and that its key characteristic is believed to be adult writing for childres, three Malaysian children and young adult novels were scrutinized. As the stories of the passage, though structurally well-written, all were slanted to the educating pole. It was found that adults the writer, illustrator, editor, publisher, were consciously engineering and manipulating character, plot and the setting of the story for the sake of one goal, that was educating. This study questions adult authority and awareness of the very important role he / she played in enriching children and young adult life alike through literature.
