Isi artikelThe pavilion of Indonesia at the World Expo is used as a media to pass on the message from the Government of Indonesia to the world. The arrangement of the objects being displayed is the result of the interpretation of the hegemony of the ruling government which is perceived as being able to tell the whole and detailed story of Indonesia, what Indonesia is and what its position in the world’s perception is. The problem in this case is what the manifestation of the display arrangement in the form of signs in the pavilion would be. By means of the data taken from a variety of documents such as photographs, news taken from daily papers, magazines, sites and articles from a number of books, this research aims at revealing the signs in the display arrangement of the pavilion of Indonesia in Shanghai World Expo in 2010. This research describes that through the representation of the pavilion’s display arrangement we can find a formation of meaning which shifts from its denotative to connotative meaning. The shift will pass through certain time and by way of repetition it will become myth and ultimately it will become ideology.
