Isi artikel
The socio cultural background of SL and TL should be considered when a translator wishes to translate culture-laden SL text into TL in order that TL readers get the same message as the SL readers. This article analyzed the various translations of a culture-specific phrase ?mbok-mbok jamu? into its English equivalents produced by twenty (20) university lecturers. The analysis was done using cognitive creation translation model and discussed in terms of three translation aspects: generalization, deletion and distortion. Research revealed that most translations were distorted from the original meaning.
