From the beginning of the 20th century there has been a centripetal movement among the inhabitants of the islands between Asia and Australia. They longed for freedom from the Dutch colonization, But they were very much divided in terms of cultures, economies, politics as well as religions. In 1940s some young politicans were aware, that unless they were united, they would never be politically free. They found a formula, called Pancasila, to realize their Political dream. They could even solve the vulnerable religious relationships. But it was only the beginning of the struggle for Indonesian unity, The cultural and political aspects were and are the most difficult ones. Still Indonesians need more than political and economical unity, They need a humanistic common ground for their all encompassing unity, which many think is Pancasila. Unfortunately, they were over-zealous people in the cultivation of Pancasila during the new order era that the campaign itself has brought into being its own backlash, Anyhow, Indonesians should try to reformulate a humanistic ideological unifying idea, to give a new orientation to the common economical, political, cultural and religious endeavour.
