Isi artikelIntroduction: Cinnamon is dried bark of trees from the genus Cinnamomum.(1) can be used to control blood glucose level. (2) have insulinlike characteristicthat have been studied could lower the blood glucose level. (3) could affectinsulin receptor on the tissues which decreased the insulin resistance. Themechanism of action of cinnamon are (1) increasing the sensitivity of insulinreceptors; (2) activation of PI 3-kinase receptor and inhibition of tyrosine phos-phatase, (3) increasing the concentration of phosphorylated IRS-1 and its bind-ing on PI 3-kinase, (4) activation of glycogen synthesis; (5) stimulation of glu-cose uptake; (6) activation of insulin receptor kinase. The goal of this study is tofind out the effect of cinnamon extract on blood glucose level in mice. Methods: This intervention study 40 white mice with average weight of 217.5 grams which were divided into 4 groups A, B, C and D. Each group consisted of 10 mice. Group A was given 40 mg cinnamon extract in 5 ml water, Group B wasgiven 5 ml glucose solution75% Group C was given 5 ml glucose solution75% and 40 mg cinnamon Group D was only given 5 ml of water. Results: There are no significant differences in blood glucose level between themice in group B (was given glucose 75%) and group C (was given glucosesolution75% and 40 mg cinnamon extract). Conclusions: In this study, there seems to be no decrease in blood glucoselevel after the administration of cinnamon extract for 4 days in non-diabeticmice. This shows that cinnamon doesn't give hypoclycemic effect in non-insulinresistant mice (non-diabetic).
