The popularity of social networks has made it essential to investigate ways to use them effectively. There is a huge opportunity for English language teachers and students to use them (Dudeney, 2012). Using social networks is a new approach, practical applications can be filled. According to Vygotsky (1978), teachers should work with students so they can be independent problem-solvers through guidance and collaboration from peers and teachers. Bandura (1977) has explained students learn from each other through interaction, observation and modeling. Similarly, students and teachers interact, observe, and model using Facebook (Rasmussen, 2012). This present research investigated the use of Facebook to teach and correct students’ writings. Data has been collected from writing assignments of first year medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University. Students posted their writings on Facebook. The teacher and students interacted and made comments which consisted of correcting the writing assignments. Most of the interactions were concerned with grammatical mistakes. According to O’Brien (2001) and Burns (1999), this present research would be an example of action research since it has been conducted in the classroom to improve a practice and to solve a real problem. This present research has concluded that the use of Facebook in the teaching and learning of English is quite effective, but more research needs to be conducted.
