People were already concerned with the use of bahasa Indonesia as a language to be used in the field of law since it was initiated at the Second Congress of Bahasa Indonesia, organised in media by the Government from october, 28 till November 2, 1954. However positive actions towards its realisation only, became evident seven years later, in 1961 the government set up a Lembaga Pembinaan Hukum Nasional (LPHN) which comprised a legal terms commision. the next imoportant event was the organisation of a Symposium on Language and Law in medan from 25 - 27 November 1974. This symposium was set up at the initiative of the Badan pembinaan Hukum Nasional (formerly called LPHN) and the Faculty of Law of the University of North Sumatera producing several imporatnt conclusions and formulations. Among others there was a resolution made that "bahasa hukum indonesia" is bahasa indonesia used in the field of law and due to its function. it has some spesific characteristics. Nevertheless, bahasa hukum Indonesia should meet the same norms and rules applied in bahasa Indonesia. It is unfortunate, however that the follow up actions were slow and sporadic. Only in the year 1978 a book called Pembinaan Bahasa Hukum Indonesia was published and then in the year 1992 another book called Bahasa indonesia. In general, there are still a lot of unemployed fields of language "bahasa hukum indonesia" in particular needs immediate attention.
