Isi artikel
Due to the differences in the characteristics between English verbs and Indonesian verbs, this paper aims to study kinds of translation variation of verbs of saying from English to Bahasa in two Ms Wiz series books, In Control Ms Wiz? and Ms Wiz Spells Trouble; the way those verbs of saying translated into Bahasa; and to what extend the variation of those translations attract the target readers’ interest in enjoying the story of the books. Baker’s word sub-divisions and Rojo’s and Valenzuela’s diagram are referred and adapted to determine the findings. Four clusters based on the specificity involving manner and intention aspects are found from the data analysis. In addition, general verbs of saying tend to have more translation variations than the specific ones and assessment dealing with the interesting plot of the story shows that the more various verbs of saying presented the more interesting the plot of the story for children is.
