It is needed since language as an identity has characteristics that might be different from one into another. Moreover, House (2009) stated that in translating a text is not only the linguistic aspects that a translator must pay attention of, but also the cultural aspects. On the other hand, a translator must also keep the equivalence to be obtained, even though the text contains some cultural contexts that are difficult to be translated. There are some techniques in translation that can be chosen to keep the translation result is understandable and acceptable by the reader. This paper discusses the strategy used by the translator for dealing with nonequivalence at word level in a cultural text. The result of this study shows that although the translation result is considered as non-equivalence, but there are strategies proposed by Baker that can be chosen to make the translation is acceptable by the reader.
