P.pdf (138.03KB) Isi artikel This paper examines several translation strategies in rendering the novel Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert in an attempt to meet the equivalence factor. House (2009) points out that the term equivalence refers to two or more entities being of ‘equal value’, ‘corresponding value’, or ‘having the same use of function as something else’. But in fact, not all parts of SL text are replaced by their equivalents because the exact equivalents do not exist in the TL system. The results show that any translation strategies discuss in this paper may appear as an obligatory or optional one and may be regarded as borrowing, calque, literal translation, modulation and adaptation. They might appear on a pragmatic level of the TL and thus are important for the proper picture of the message implied by the SL discourse and the impact the message is supposed to have on the reader.
