This paper discusses the translation of titles of novels. The purpose of this novel is explaining why we do or do not translate titles of novels and how we translate them. Two main theories used in this paper to answer them are Peter Newmark's (1988: 56) theory of title and the theory of connotative meaning suggested by Nida and Taber (1974: 92-93). The conclusion is translating title requires the translator to has to put in her consideration the whole text, the title's connotative meaning, and the reader's response. Equivalency is pursued, but if it is not possible to accomplish, the translator can transform it, add a subtitle, or just leave the original title the way it is. Identity is undoubtly important, but the translator can simply keep the original title on the cover to gain a full guarantee.
