This research is a descriptive qualitative research which aims at investigating problems in movie subtitling. The problems are strategies applied by the translator to reduce the text volume and units of translation which are reduced to compress the text volume. This research applies reduction strategies stated by Gottlieb (1998) and classification units of translation stated by Newmark (1991). This research concludes that the strategies applied by the translator include condensation, decimalization. It can be found that the units of translation which reduced happened in all level of text.
