Isi artikelThe present study observes the translation of Arundhati Roy’s God of Small Things (1997) into Yang Maha Kecil (2003) which bears some significant problems concerning the inconsistencies in the use of the strategies of translation. Using Foucaoult’s theory of power, it argues that those problems are the result of power negotiations among the many parties that are involved in the translation. There were little power internalization and power affirmation while it involved too much resistence. With lack of power affirmation, there would be lack of control, and productivity may deteroriate. This might explain why the translation reaches the readers with so many apparent problems that could have been minimized if only the translation was done with good control. Such translation has made Yang Maha Kecil an affirmation to the general marginality of translations both as process and as product.
