The present article examines the use of the word ko˜ik ‘all’ in Estonian everyday conversations. The article shows that the word, which generally has been regarded as a universal quantifier, actually functions as a pronoun carrying an additional meaning of pragmatic plenitude. In addition to examining the pragmatic functions of ko˜ik the article explores its grammaticalization into a particle. The constructions that ko˜ik occurs in will also be discussed.
