The Indonesian acronym "PSK" standing for Pekerja Seks Komersial, a direct translation of Commercial Sex Worker is now under strong debate. For a long time the term has been permitted by the Indonesian government to denote "women working as prostitutes to earn money. Not long after the Department of Health Affairs used the term PSK in the context of HIV/AIDS prevention programs, the Department of Women's Affairs, the Department of Social Affairs and the Department of Manpower debated the term technically and substantially. The Department of Social Affairs claimed the acronym stands for Pekerja Sosial Kecamatan (social workers in the subdistricts) and is widespreadly used and formaly recognised.
