Focusing on the Australian Curriculum Standards Framework, the authors report on ESL teachers dealing with assessment reliability and validity. The article highlights the Framework’s limitations and attempts to engage it to produce better assessments. The authors also discuss the epistemological authority of the teachers within the education system.
