Isi artikelGroup members construct consensual belief-group realities-the function of which reflects more an ethnocentric than objective reality. Ingroup favoritism and outgroup derogation are key concepts in this perspective. Maintenance and reinforcement of these group realities are helped by a series of microprocesses such as expectations, selective attention, vigilance, and confirmatory bias. While adventageous, the juxtaposition of these processes does not help to create an overarching theory(ies). The Stereotype Content Model and infra-humanization are offered as attempts at formalization. Finally, it is suggested that reduction of conflicts between groups might be obtained by respecting their ethnocentric group realities rahter than suppressing the groups might of the weaker side, and letting them use different strategies rather than imposing a unique standard.
