ASEAN countries, individually and not in the framework of organizations, have proposed to strengthen the growth of their economies and economic structure under the cooperation policy between trade and investment. The trends and linkage in trade reveal a dynamic improvement from 1980 - 1990, though a bulk of trade has gone to extra regional rather than to intraregional areas. On the other hand, the trend and linkage of investments reveals that Japan was the most important source of investment, together wth NIE's and The United States, especially for the Philippines. ASEAN has witnessed limited progress in cooperation and in attracting the intraregional investment flows.
