Isi artikelAcute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is an acute respiratory disease that requires intensive care treatment with high mortality rates up to 60%. Acute repiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) could be due to pulmonary disorders (aspiration, pneumonia) and extrapulmonary disorders (sepsis, severe injury). Spesific prevention for ALI/ ARDS are still unknown eventhough prior risk factors of ALI/ARDS have been identified. Strategy concerns particularly to prevent risk factors development become ARDS including the occurrence of injury prevention, control nosocomial infection, aspiration prevention, and adequate antimicrobial therapy to treat infection. The treatment for patients with ALI/ ARDS predicts the prognosis and mortality. Understanding the pathogenesis of ALI/ ARDS has important role in treatment strategy for ALI/ ARDS. Treatment approach using mechanical ventilation for patients with ALI/ ARDS remain controversial. American - European Concencus Conference Committee (AECC) recommends tidal volume, positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP) dan hypercapnic limitation.
