Isi artikelWhen the Evangelism drafting group met for its final meeting last year in Jamaica, the leader and moderator of our group, John Baxter-Brown, challenged us to make sure that the document followed what Christ asks of his church: more evangelism and better evangelism. He repeated these words again in India just a few weeks ago as church leaders met to develop their own code of ethics for Christian mission. Evangelism, truly and biblically understood, has to be holistic evangelism. So we need more evangelism and better evangelism today. If we lose sight of the importance of this, the entire point of this pre-assembly is lost. As John Baxter-Brown pointed out, if we lose sight of the biblical and theological roots of evangelism, we run the risk of diluting the transformative power of the gospel: our justice and peace witness will be weak, our worship will be flat and our proclamation empty.
