Isi artikelNew words are required not only to increase our vocabulary stock but also to create new sentences. New words are acquired by the process of word formation which covers several ways. One of the largest ways to form new words in English is affixation either through prefixation or suffixation, but hardly ever through confixation or infixation such as in Indonesian. Besides, there are also coining, cliping, blending, acronym, and compounding to form new words. The difficulty comes up when one has to decide which morpheme comes first to the root if he encounters a word eith bound morphemes at both sides, since the two bound morphemes comes first to the root if he encounters a word with bound morphemes at both sides, since the bound morphemes are not simultaneously attacked to the root such as that in Indonesian, called confixation.
