Physical and stability characteristics of shampoo are affected by the use of Carbopol 940 as thickening agent and propyleneglycol as humectant. Carbopol 940 is a thickening agent which is used to increase foam stability of shampoo, where as propyleneglycol is used to decrease viscosity of shampo. At some point of combination of both components can produce a shampoo with on proper physical and characteristics. The aim of this research was to understand th eeffects and interactions of Carbopol 940 and propyleneglycol toward the physical and stability characteristics of dried green tea extract (Camellia sinensis L.) in shampoo product. The experimental research was based on full factorial design involving two factors which were carbopol 940 and propyleneglycol. There are two level in this method such as high level and low level. There are some physical characteristics which are evaluated such as viscosity and the resistance of the foam, are alteration of viscosity and resistance of foam. The data were analyzed statically using Design Expert 7.0.0. with confidence level of 95% to know the significancy (p<0.05) of every factor and interaction in contributing to the effect. The result of this research showed that carbopol 940, propyleneglycol and their interaction shows significant effect against the shampoo viscosity. However, carbopol 940 propyleneglycol and the interaction demonstrates insignificant effect against the resistance of foam and the alternation of viscosity. Propyleneglycol provides significant effect toward the resistance of foam, whereas the interaction and carbopol 940 give insignificant effect towards the resistance of foam.
