The use herbal medicine has become a part of Indonesian culture and tradition. Until today, it is still used by mnay to solve health problems. This research tries to find out geriatric patientns' knowledge about herbal medicine and their reasons to use it. This research is non-experimental research by descriptive design using quota sampling by non-probability sampling. Questionnaires were distributed to 90 geriatric patiens in Sardjito Hospital who met inclusion an exclusion standard. The questionnaires were tested their validity using Pearson Moment Product and Total Item-Corrected Correlations Test. The reliability was tested using Alpha Cronbach method. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics in the form of percentage and displayed in tables and figures. The research concludes that the petients' level of knowledge about herbal medicine is fair, with the average score of 73,49%. 53 respondents (58,89%) prefer herbal to conventional medicine to solve health problems. 34.85% respondendts think that herbal medicine has mild side effect (relatively safe).
