Isi artikelSince the developmet at the beginning of sixties, the human capital theory, which claims that education has to be regarded as an investment (nit consumption), has been critized by a number of economists and other socia scientitst. They doubted the assumed positive relationship between human and investment and workers' productivity, they questioned seriously its methodology, and they looked at the theor as debasing human beings. The critics, under the name of screening hypothesis, refuse the theory by arguing that education merely functions as a convenient screening device used by employers to identify workers with supperior innate abilities, The higher earnings of the more educated workers are only a reflection of their superior native abilities, not a result of their conginitive achievement acquired in school. However a number of recent studies for example by Knight and Sabot in Kenya and Tazania in 1984, support the human capital theory than the screening hypothesis.
