Teachers face several challenges when teaching English, one of which is students' difficulty in writing recount text coherently. As a teaching aid for this topic, a picture series was used in this research. This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of using picture series media to teach writing recount text. The study is based on a pre-experimental design combined with qualitative and quantitative methodology (mixed method). A total of 16 5th- grade elementary school students from Pah Tsung School in Jakarta, Indonesia, participated in this research. To analyze the data, the researcher compared the average scores from the pre- test and post-test in the form of recount text essay writing using the picture series to observe changes in students after receiving the test. Based on the findings, there was a significant increase from an average pre-test score of 50.62 to an average post-test score of 80, indicating an increase of 58.02%. Observations and interactions also indicated that all students were motivated to actively participate in learning using this media. Students expressed that the use of picture series could support them in writing recount texts. Therefore, it can be concluded that this media is effective in supporting the recount text learning process for students. |
