Three main requirements for an economic leading country are the independence of its country to fulfill its domestic energy, food, and industrial raw material need. Nowadays, because world crude oil reserves will be used up in around next twenty year, energy and raw material crisis is threatening our world. As a result, our world will enter new millennium soon. In this new millennium, crude oil will not be a major source of energy and industrial raw materials for the world. The petroleum will be replaced by biomass. Indonesia has a significant opportunity to become the leading economy in this new millennium. With the support of potential natural sources and appropriate technology, Indonesia can optimize biomass production and utilization. Effective and efficient technology that can be developed in the future is combination of depolimerization and extraction process in high viscosity system. These processes are used because biomass forms a complex matrix, which consists of the primarily desired products like oils, lignin, and cellulose, which will be converted in appropriate processes into chemicals.By using this technology, Indonesia can produce various industrial raw materials from hiomass and biofuel from waste of biomass itself. By implementing this system and technology, Indonesia will have independence of energy, food, and industrial raw material supply. Indonesia will be a leading economy in that millenium because we will not only can fulfill our domestic needs by ourselves but also get income by exporting our biomass product However, there is still several environmental and social issues that must be handled by our government through their policies.
