Rights are usually discussed in connection with the philosophy of law or politics. The present article attempts to show that the matter should more appropriately be viewed from general ethics. Simply stated a right can be defined as a truthful claim. Although there is a relationship between rights and oligations, not all rights are in line with obligations and not all obligations are in line with rights. Marxist's claim that rights bring about individualism must be rejected. On the contrary, society becomes more vital and rich if rights are properly recognized.
