Isi artikelIt has become a common that human capital is the key determinant to a nation's economic growth. Investment on human capital has indicated to perpetuate the emerging of other non-economic benefits, i.e., better welfare and health. As such, this implies that education is the core component of economic development, increase job opportunity and social benefit (Unesco 2002). For any individual, education is a means to be successful in the future, and nationally, education is an investment for the future nation s asset. The estimated level of contribution of education toward GDP, based on time varying method, indicated that generally there is lower elasticity of human resources with lower education level as compared to the elasticity of human resources with higher education level. The elasticity of human resources with mid level education is inreasing significantly over time. Within the observed period, the contribution of highly educated human resources toward GDP is not significant. This may be caused by the number of human resources with tertiary degree who are actually doing the lower level of jobs. The reduced number of low level human resources and the increased number of mid level human resources will push the growth of GDP in a long term, and will reduced dependency on foreign investment.
