Abstract
The objective of this study is to explore the student-teachers’ preference of the type of feedback in the teaching internship program, how the feedback is delivered from the lecturer, and to gain insight on how the feedback quality can be improved in teacher education programs. The participants of this study were 30 undergraduate students of the English Language Education Department of UNIKA Atma Jaya from batch 2019 and 2020 who have completed or are undergoing their teaching internship program. In the data collection procedure, the student-teachers were asked to fill in a 34 item questionnaire where it is divided into 4 sub headings that are categorized into; types of feedback preferred by the students, timing and frequency of feedback, types of feedback provided by the lecturer, and ways of giving feedback. In addition, the student-teachers were required to fill in an open ended question to obtain their suggestions regarding how to improve the quality of feedback in teacher education programs. The findings were analyzed by calculating the percentage from each sub headings. The results indicated that the student-teachers preferred oral feedback, written feedback, and a combination of both oral and written feedback. The result also found that the student-teachers agree feedback is given in different ways from the lecturer; through a messaging application and also utilized email. Moreover, the student-teachers have other supporting aspects for their preference of the types of feedback and how they would like the feedback to be delivered.
