In recent years, technology has significantly impacted the learning and teaching process, especially at the beginning of the pandemic era when learning activities shifted to online based. Now many people take advantage of learning from social media, especially TikTok, which has become a trend among the younger generation. One of them is learning vocabulary, which is the essential component of a language, and learners can improve their vocabulary through this exciting tool. This study explores the undergraduate students' perceptions of using the social media TikTok as a learning media for learning English vocabulary. This study collected data through a questionnaire using a measuring instrument five-point Likert scale, and interviews, modified focus group discussions, and conversation through WhatsApp chat. In the data collection process, students were asked to fill in a questionnaire containing 15 items to see their perceptions of TikTok in learning vocabulary. Furthermore, 15 of the 144 participants were interviewed to reconfirm and strengthen the questionnaire results. The participants were undergraduate students in Indonesia from various majors aged 17-26. The findings were analyzed based on four aspects: students' English vocabulary improvement, TikTok as Learning Media, and students’ perceptions. The results found that student participants generally have a positive perception of TikTok as a learning media for vocabulary improvement. The results of this study also show that TikTok can also be implemented as a learning media in English vocabulary lessons in self-taught and classroom methods for undergraduate students. |
