This research aimed to investigate whether Reading to Learn (R2L) is effective to improve Junior High School students’ recount writing ability. This R2L method was developed by D. Rose and J.R. Martin for a teacher to guide students to read and to write a text. The R2L model has four stages: preparing for reading, detailed reading, note-making, and joint construction. The participants of this research are the 21 junior high school students from Tarsisius 1 Junior High School in Harmoni in Gambir district in Central Jakarta. The methodology that was used in this research is a quasi experimental method. The data are presentedfor one meeting through the participant’s response of the pre – test, post – test and the participants’ interview questions’ responses two weeks after the quasi- experimental method about the R2L technique. The data will be analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively (mix method) through the result of the pre and thepost- test, the statistical result from SPSS v 22 and the students’ interview responses to obtain the result of whether R2L technique is really effective in improving Grade 9A Tarsisius 1 students’ writing ability. The result of the pre and post - test, the statistical result from SPSS v 22 and the students’ interview responses determined whether the R2L method is effective to improve junior high school students’ recount writing. The findings of this research showed that the implementation of the R2L technique was ineffective to improve junior high school students’ recount writing abilities. |
