Isi artikelThe Convention on the Law of the Sea decrees that coastal state have sovereign rights over resources out to 200 nautical miles offshore in what is termed the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Though the convention is not yet binding, many coastal states have extended their jurisdictions by unilateral action to 200 nautical miles offshore. Overlapping claims to EEZs and continental shelves are now common in regions such as the Celebes Sea between Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
