Human resource is the most important asset in an organization specially in universities. In improving lecturer job satisfaction and their commitment, it is important to determine their quality of work life (QWL). The research project was conducted to investigate the gender difference in quality of work life and the organizational commitment among private lecturer in Palembang. Seven QWL variables were examined namely growth and development, participation, physical environment, supervision, pay and benefits, social relevance. To be able to evaluated the difference a survey quetionaire was prepared and conducted to 126 private university lecturer in Palembang. Data were analyzed by descriptive and chi-square statistical analysis methods. The result indicate that variances in quality work of life explain differences between man and women. Within this finding, it is highlight that either men and women need a better supervision and pay in order to enhance their satisfaction and commitment to their institution.
