There are two types of curriculum for medical schools : 1) the traditional curriculum which is the oldest and most widely used and 2) problem oriented curriculum which is new and so far has been introduced in some 150 medical schools throughout the world. In each type there are six strategies: - focusing on the students, - learning from field problems, - integrating various sub disciplines, - orienting toward community, - providing choices to students, and - being systematic. Each strategy is a spectrum. The coverage of the spectrum is determined by the goal of each medical school, the facilities available, the method of teaching chosen, and the method of evaluation used.
