Aerial refueling has been developed for almost a century and has proven to be the backbone of the military due to its many benefits, such as allowing longer airborne period and range while being able to carry more payload. Currently, there has been plenty of research to implement these benefits for commercial and civilian purposes, through the use of a multirole tanker such as the Airbus A330-MRTT. By using derived Breguet’s equation to find the payload range diagram of this tanker in different type of missions, the capability of this tanker is investigated for different case studies of transport, strategic deployment, and hybrid mission. A comparison of the calculated values and mission values proves the feasibility of this approach. The small differences between them can be attributed to either margin of error or the limitation of this research, where some of the military mission details and parameters are not publicly available. Future study should be able to circumvent this, while also being able to compare it a similar aircraft in the newly released Boeing KC-46. |
