This study aimed to evaluate students' perceptions of using Grammarly in English writing assignments and to find strategies for using Grammarly to support the EFL writing process. The participants of this study were 106 tenth-grade students from Pangudi Luhur II Servasius High School Bekasi, Indonesia. In the data collection process, students were asked to fill in a questionnaire containing 19 items to see their perception of Grammarly. Furthermore, 14 of the 106 students were interviewed to reconfirm and strengthen the questionnaire results. The findings were analyzed based on four aspects: students' awareness of Grammarly, the usefulness of Grammarly, the quality of Grammarly, and the drawbacks of Grammarly. The results showed that more students preferred using Grammarly over other grammar checkers since it provided benefits in terms of improving students’ understanding of English grammar and increasing their confidence in doing English writing assignments. Most students believe that Grammarly has no drawbacks and it has good quality for checking grammar errors. Meanwhile, the results of this study also showed that Grammarly can be integrated into the learning process and encourage students in self-directed learning. |
