This study aims to uncover the struggles that teacher has experienced in conducting online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the impact of the struggles towards teacher’s identity development. The participant of this study is one private junior high school English language teacher in South Jakarta, Indonesia. The study is a qualitative study with the utilization of narrative inquiry to understand the teacher’s experiences through the teacher’s perspective. The data for the first research questions were presented in themes with the respected extracts. The data for the second research question were presented extracts in parallel to teacher’s identity development theories based on Varghese, Morgan, Johnston, and Johnson (2005). There are six main themes of struggles that were uncovered in this study, those are Intrapersonal struggles, Social-interaction struggles, Students’ related struggles, Support related struggles, Teaching related struggles, and Technology related struggles. The struggles impact the teacher’s identity in various ways as for example, the teacher become someone who is more adapt, communicative, and open to technology. The result found that the struggles that the teacher had experienced formed the teacher positively that it highlighted the importance for teacher to change along with the development of times. |
