Isi artikel
The importance of the financial system for industrialization was first suggested by Bagehot (1873) and Hicks (1969). Schumpeter (1912) and Joan Robinson (1952) also emphasized the relations between banking funding and production activities. In Hong Kong, the two great economic achievements have been the transformation of a city state from an entrepot into an industrial economy and the development of a regional financial market. This paper attempts to discuss : (1) the growth and regionalization of the financial market in Hong Kong, (2) the manufacturing evolution and the induced changes in commodity trade, and (3) the possible relations and contributions of the growing financial sector to manufacturing growth and restructuring. The implications of this study are also discussed.
