Nowhere is this problem more acute than when one of the members is transferred overseas. The career conflict of a trailing spouse accentuates the “spillover” of tension from the professional domain to the family unit. This tension makes it difficult for the expatriate to perform well in the foreign assignment. This paper examines a process that could be followed to develop a social support system for dual - career couples expatriated on overseas assignments.
