Isi artikelA study of growth patterns for smaller firms found in five key new hampshire industries was conducted. Preliminary findings based on fifty responses to a mail survey indicated that these new hampshire firms gain competitive success by : 1. functioning as global, strategic suppliers to world class customers found in several distinctive industrial clusters 2. participating in sophisticated supplier - customer networks emphasizing longer term, relational arrangements driven more by customer service, product quality, just - in - itme deliveries, and technical assistance than by shorter term competitive pricing 3. overcoming customer spatial barriers, and 4. frequent product and process technological upgrades with resultant economies of scope opportunities. This has relevance to developing economies such as indonesia. Prior to the period studied, new hampshire was an underdeveloped economy relative to its much larger neighbor state to the south massachusetts.
