The corpus enables us to directly compare the use of syntactic structures or deictic items under similar pragmatic conditions in elicited narratives as well as to provide an outline of the linguistic features of varieties whose affiliations are not well known. Our preliminary findings from the corpus are that (i) voice selection in narratives varies across varieties, and (ii) narratives elicited from some speakers in Makassar exhibit a distinctive structure of transitive clauses influenced by Makassarese.
