Isi artikel
To prosper in an increasingly interdependent global environment, firms must become successful at managing multiculturalism. This means recognizing similarities and differences among national cultures and then using cultural diversity to create synergistic organizations. This article disucsses the relationship between culture and management, reviews the literature on indonesian management style and then uses the results of a recent survey among graduate business students at the prasetiya mulya graduate school of management to evaluate previous studies. Survey findings are used to identify likely areas of cultural convergence and possible areas of misunderstanding that may occur as indonesian managers work with their counterparts in other asian and western companies. Survey findings are used to identify likely areas of cultural convergence and possible areas of misunderstanding that may occur as indonesian managers work with their counterparts in other asian and western companies. Survey results suggest that some indonesian managers may be in an excellent position to meet the challenge of successfully working in a multicultural business environment. Drawing upon traditional asian and uniquely indonesian cultural values, these managers are also embracing western management values. The indonesian MBA manager of tomorrow appears well - positioned to work within the cultural boundaries of asian and western management systems alike. This article also suggests that a new style of indonesian management may be emerging, one that blends asian and western values while still retaining strong elements of indigeneous indonesian culture.
