Isi artikelTitanium alloys have been used widely to produce aerospace components that require the greatest reliability and satisfied surface finish. However, the machined surface is easy damage due to poor machinability. The aims are to investigate the surface finish of Ti-6%Al-4%V ELI during machining using carbide inserts. Surface roughness and surface topography were recorded by using surface roughness tester and laser confocal microscope, respectively. The results showed that surface roughness values recorded were more affected by feed rate and also by tool nose geometry. Surface roughness profile of titanium alloy strongly depends on primary and secondary cutting edge of cutting tool whereas the tool worn also influenced the surface roughness profile. The feedrate factor has a significant correlation to the surface texture of machined surface; the bigger surface roughness produced coarser topography.
