Manufacturing companies face new challenges due to increasing global competition, e.g. higher productivity, new product design and shorter lead times. These challenges forced them to adapt to reconfigurable manufacturing system to stay competitive. Workforce sustainability is seen as a crucial factor in the system. Ergonomic considerations in the design of work and workplaces not only promote the health of the employees, but also may support productivity and quality of the companies. This article focuses on ergonomic intervention in reconfigurable assembly system. Ergonomics intervention is proposed to be done at two distinct levels i.e. at assembly planning and workstation levels. It describes and identifies factors for the implementation and application of ergonomic intervention and improvement for the workplace.
