Memes can be described as a complex internet communication artefact that is generated and propagated by users through daily basis. Internet memes is used for many purposes but famously used to convey messages and share experiences through use of semiotic resource. This study aims to analyze elements of multimodal in memes used to construct meanings based on the semiotic resources it uses, such as fonts, color and pictures using the semiotic approach of multimodal discourse analysis on 15 combinations of images and text of online learning in covid-19 pandemic taken from social media and internet platform. This study finds that meanings are conveyed by the semiotic resources of the memes based on the aspects of rhetorical device, genre, assumption of the social semiotic, perspective, and participants. The study also found that online learning memes are used to communicate negative attitudes toward online learning especially during the pandemic Covid-19. |
