Abstract
This study is about the students’ anxiety in the online performance of SMA Mater Dei students. This study aims to investigate the speaking anxiety in the online performance of SMA Mater Dei students. The study involved 40 students of Grade 10 who were making video assignments. This study used quantitative and qualitative methodology to collect the data. The instruments in this study were a questionnaire and interviews. The questionnaire had two parts. On the first, the participants were given an adapted version of the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS), which was developed by Horwitz (1986) combined with the Test Anxiety Inventory from Spielberger (1980). In the second part of the questionnaire, the participants were given an adapted strategy applied to overcome anxiety, which was developed by Stanley (2019). And the interview questions were adapted from Young (1992). The result of this study show that the students have a high anxiety level. “Select a topic of interest to you then prepare the topic carefully” and “Try to memorize words and sentences that you will use in oral examination” both strategies became the strategies which are mostly chosen by the participants.
