One of the main problems in English grammar teaching and learning is the lack of understanding among teachers and learners of how to use and maximize the potential of technology as a teaching and learning tool. Their lack of understanding can lead to an ineffective teaching and learning process. Moreover, the proper implementation of technology in English grammar teaching and learning may support the positive theories of experts in grammar teaching. Several researchers such as Rahayu & Purnawarman (2019), Lestari (2019), and Göksün & Gürsoy (2019) had proven that Quizizz and Kahoot gave a good influence on learners’ learning progress. However, none of their studies investigated the prominent features or even the strengths and weaknesses of the application. Therefore, this present study aimed to find the prominent features as well as the strengths and weaknesses of both applications by adapting the analysis criteria chart made by Cherner & Lee (2015) and Cherner et al. (2016). The analysis procedure of this study used a content method analysis by Krippendorff (2004). The findings showed that the prominent features of both applications came in almost all criteria except guidance for Quizizz and network for Kahoot. Some prominent features also became the strengths of the applications whereas some other non-prominent features became the weaknesses of the applications. Eventually, the findings of the analysis of these two learning mobile applications were further discussed with all the related theories to create several suggestions for a better implementation of English grammar teaching and learning. |
