Isi artikelIn 2001 Argentina's economy collapsed. Both foreign and domestic companies suffered huge losses. Unlike local firms, however, foreigners could turn to International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) - a World Bank body that conducts arbitration between businesses and governments - for compensation. Dozens filed cases. Argentina has done well at ICSID, winning six of the ten resolved cases. A dozen more claims have been withdrawn. But the awards it has lost amount to $400m.
