Isi artikelHot dip galvanizing, by coating with zinc, is one proven way of protecting the steel substrate from atmospheric corrosion. The resistance to corrosion depends on the weight of zinc coated per unit surface area and so, coating weight is a part of the Technical Delivery Conditions (TDC). Zinc Yield is a measure of how close the TDC value is achieved. The biggest challenge in any Galvanizing process is the optimization of this coating weight such that it is close to TDC value and at the same time, not high enough to increase cost of product. Few improvement projects were taken earlier to improve the capability of the process so that coating can be controlled at a closer tolerance. However, no efforts were actually taken to find out the best operating condition, so that the consumption can be controlled at a very stricter level. This project was the first such attempt in which the scope of project was to identify the most important process parameters, finding out the best operating range by using suitable statistical tools and control the process at these operating ranges.
