Isi artikelThis article is an analysis of a case study about an asymmetric relation between Japan and Indonesia which rooted from the cause of information communication technology (ICT) capability disparities between both states. Japan has an ambition and an interest to widely promote and communicate their popular culture commodities throughout the world, so that it could be accepted as a product of “transnational culture”. In Indonesia, Japanese popular culture has been dominating significantly. The domination of Japanese popular culture in Indonesia has even beaten the former domination of American popular culture since 2005. One of the reasons was because of the agreements, aids, and trading flow in ICT sector between Japan and Indonesia. Therefore, the article describes causality between the Japanese government policies in ICT sector and the domination of Japanese popular culture in Indonesia.
